Straight from the Heart

The levels of stress we experience in our lives on a daily basis are extremely high and increasing. We struggle to maintain our equilibrium in this technologically advanced and fast paced world we live in.

We have historically been conditioned to deal with what life throws at us through sensory and mental processes only. The problem with this is that we can start to experience an overload of sensory input (which translates into feelings of overwhelm) and then our thoughts about what is happening to us become infected with the negativity virus  and before long we find ourselves travelling down the slippery slope toward a breakdown (or in computer speak our hard drive becomes slower and slower until it finally freezes up)! The Holy Ground

We all spend far too much time obsessing about what happened in the past or what may happen in the future. These are ego based states which prevent us from living in the present moment or the Holy Ground.

The Holy Ground is as author Marriane Williamson states where “eternity meets linear time”. Neither the past nor the future exist other than in our minds. The former is a recollection of past events (past present moments) with our own unique interpretation about those events and the latter is a projection into the future of what may occur in the future (imagined future present moments). Madness in the Malls!

A potent mix for a cocktail of violence – take one unstable and dysfunctional person, add unrestricted access to firearms, mix slowly then add a political rally and a pinch of attention seeking and shake vigorously until turns blood red.

When are politicians and lobbyists alike ever going to learn. The right to bare arms has no place in any forward thinking nation which wants its people to experience global peace in our time.

External acts of violence are symptomatic of the sickness which pervades the world in these times. The human species has gotten so far off-track that nothing short of a major global disaster is going to wake us up from our deep nightmarish sleep. Continue reading

Why are our young people killing themselves?

New Zealand has one of the worst teenage suicide rates in the OECD (15 per 100,000).

As a father of three teenage children I find this statistic staggering! For a country which prides itself on being “God’s Own” there seems to be a systemic failure on the part of our education system and social agencies.

As a coach I have wanted for some time now to help teach life skills to young people. These skills are not going to be taught at our schools and most parents either do not have the time or don’t have the knowledge to do this themselves.

Unfortunately our education system is so bureaucratically entrenched and heavily reined in by an out of control  “Nanny State” that unless you are a qualified teacher you don’t have a hope in hell of being allowed anywhere near our young people during school time. Continue reading
