Justice On A Full Stomach

Judges are more likely to rule in prisoners’ favour immediately after having a meal break, scientists said today.

Prisoners seeking parole stand a better chance of having it granted if they face a judge shortly after a meal break, according to a study.

Researchers following judges granting parole to inmates found that shortly after a snack or meal, they returned a favourable verdict 65 per cent of the time. Continue reading

The Health Debate

The media is continually full of news about rampant viruses, whats good for us and whats not and what supplements and vitamins, lotions and potions we should be taking or using to stave off every known illness or complaint under the Sun and how we can avoid the ultimate dis-ease of aging.

This unfortunately is just all superficial camouflage and a cynical attempt to make money out of our fears and insecurities. The real deal and where the pedal hits the metal is the connection between spirit, mind, emotions and body. These are the four levels of existence. If we are to live healthy, happy and energetic lives we need to ensure fitness at these levels – spiritual fitness, mental fitness, emotional fitness and physical fitness. These levels are intrinsically linked so that a lack of fitness in one will ulimately affect the others. Continue reading

How much do you value yourself?

Throughout our lives we are called to make many decisions on a daily basis about who we choose to be and what we want from life. Yet most likely those decisions have been and continue to be made at the mental level after a careful and deliberate consideration of the all the pros and cons. This can often lead to analysis paralysis and procrastination. Sound familiar?

While these can be enormously beneficial learning experiences many of these experiences could have potentially been avoided and we could have instead experienced our desired outcomes if we have taken the time to consult our hearts. Feeling Envious?

I came across an article the other day recording an interview with a well known Jazz Musician who proceeded in the interview to personally attack another well known musician who has been commercially successful at bridging the gap between jazz and mainstream music genres.

It’s not totally clear what set this attack off apart from the interviewee taking exception to the other muso using a track from another well known artist to play and record with (bit like Natalie Cole singing with her deceased Dad). One would presume all the legal niceties for copyright had been onserved because the track was on a commercially released cd.

We can all understand that we have different and varied tastes in music and that there are also differences in musicians abilities. Yet the interviewee went out of his way to denigrate the other muso and to criticise his lack of rythmn and for playing sharp and so on. Obviously there is more to this than first meets the eye. It was starting to sound a bit like sour grapes to me! Continue reading
