The Great Dictator

The following is an extract of a speech delivered by the late Charlie Chaplin in his role of the Great Dictator. It is still relevant and probably more so now than when it was first delivered:
“I’m sorry but I don’t want to be an Emperor – that’s not my business – I don’t want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone if possible, Jew, gentile, black man, white. We all want to help one another, human beings are like that.

We all want to live by each other’s happiness, not by each other’s misery. We don’t want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone and the earth is rich and can provide for everyone.

The way of life can be free and beautiful.
